The revival of The National Library (TNL) is a public, nonprofit and private sector partnership. The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS), Somalia’s first think tank, has envisaged a plan to renovate and reopen TNL. It’s an ambitious but attainable plan that could reinvigorate the culture of learning, research and inquiry in Mogadishu. More importantly, TNL is the first public library of its kind in Mogadishu since the Somali civil war started in 1991, and would become a major stabilizing force in the city. Tens of thousands of youth, at risk of radicalization and recruitment, willfind the Library a solace.
Thus,the renovation, restoration and reopening of TNL will play a significant role in peace building, stability, and professional development providing a safe place that nurtures and develops the mind of children, young adults, professionals, and the general public.
